Steve Hutcheson, Ph.D. - Chairman and CTO
Dr. Steve Hutcheson, the founder of Zymetis, is a recognized leader in the field of bacterial molecular biology and is the world’s foremost authority on certain bacterium from which the company derives its unique intellectual property. An accomplished academic, Dr. Hutcheson has more than 211 formal research presentations and publications, multiple patents with seven pending and has served on 18 advisory panels for Federal funding agencies.
Dr. Hutcheson is a sought-after speaker in the field of molecular biology and bacteriology, as well as in the area of renewable energy. His recent speaking engagements include addresses at the Colloquium on Conversion of Biomass to Renewable Energy at the Annual Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology and the Gordon Conference on Cellulases and Cellulosomes.
Dr. Hutcheson earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkley. He is presently on leave from the University of Maryland, where he is a professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics.
Scott Laughlin - CEO, Board Member
Mr. Scott Laughlin began his career at International Data Group (IDG), then moved to LinkExchange, a company acquired by Microsoft in 1998. Scott worked at Microsoft as a Group Program Manager before returning to IDG as a Partner in their venture capital group. Subsequently, Mr. Laughlin was the inaugural Director of the University of Maryland’s VentureAccelerator, a program that spins out companies based on University IP.
Mr. Laughlin has served as an advisor to or investor in several early stage technology companies, including TellMe (Nasdaq: MSFT), Xythos Software (Nasdaq: BBBB), Zappos.com and iLike. Currently, in addition to Zymetis, Mr. Laughlin serves on the Board of Directors of LM&O Advertising, Affiliate Classroom, First Juice, and Saber Seven.
Mr. Laughlin received his AB from Princeton University.
Steve Davey - Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Davey spent 24 years at W. R. Grace, a global specialty chemicals company, serving in a wide range of positions including product line management, worldwide sales and marketing and general management. After leaving W.R. Grace, Mr. Davey co-founded Refining & Petrochemical Ventures, LLC (RPV) in 2005, an enterprise that provides risk management to petroleum refiners involved in the manufacture, procurement, storage and sale of petrochemical feedstocks.
Mr. Davey received his Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware and Masters in Business Administration from Loyola College of Maryland.
